Sadler, E. Mannikka, F. Slack, G. Wilson, M. Dively Excused: R. Rearick, C. Zoni, B. Carter, J. Myers, C. Young, T. Warman, M.Swinker Meeting called to order at 3:15 p.m. Minutes from February 20 meeting were approved on a Wilson/Mannikka motion. Although we did not have a quorum, those present felt it was important to proceed with the work of the committee to review the 120 credit revision proposals. All recommendations and final approvals will be provisional until a majority of LSC members can review and vote on the proposals. Provisionally approved Liberal Studies revisions for the following programs (pending electronic ballot from majority of LSC members): BA Economics/Mathematics on a Wilson/ Mannikka motion (department agrees to remove statement about foreign language requirement following Liberal Studies Electives, make current program identical to what is in the catalog, and use the proposed new title for ECON 122 ). BA Economics/Pre-Law on a Dively/Slack motion(department agrees to remove statement about foreign language requirement following Liberal Studies Electives, make current program identical to what is in the catalog, and use the proposed new title for ECON 122 ). BA Economics on a Mannikka/Wilson motion (department agrees to remove statement about foreign language requirement following Liberal Studies Electives, make current program identical to what is in the catalog, and use the proposed new title for ECON 122 ). BS Education Social Science Education/Economics Track on a Slack/Diverly motion with the following corrections: LS total credits should be 51 cr instead of 50; correct the credit hours for EDEX 301 from 3 to 2 cr; change free electives to 1 cr instead of 2. BA Political Science on a Wilson/Mannikka motion with the following corrections: LS total credits 50 instead of 49; LS Electives 6 cr. instead of 5 and Free Electives 4-19 (department has agreed to the changes). BA Political Science/Pre-Law on a Dively/Mannikka motion with the following corrections: LS total credits 50; LS Electives 6 cr instead of 5, and Free Electives 10-22. BA Government and Public Service on a Slack/Wilson motion with the following corrections: LS credits 50; LS Electives 6 cr instead of 5, and Free Electives 4-10. BA International Studies/Political Science on a Wilson/Dively motion with the following corrections: LS credits 50; LS Electives 6 cr instead of 5, and Free Electives 31-37. BA Biology on a Wilson/Dively motion with the recommendation to separate the 0-6 foreign language requirement from other requirements resulting in Other Requirements 8 cr instead of a range and College: foreign language 0-6 cr BS Biology on a Dively/Mannikka motion with the recommendation to separate the 0-6 foreign language requirement from other requirements resulting in Other Requirements 17 cr instead of a range and College: foreign language 0-6 cr. BS Education Social Studies Education/History Track on a Slack/Wilson motion with the recommendation to remove the 9 sh designations beside Humanities and Social Science; students will actually be completing 6 credits in Humanities because they will not take HIST 195. BS Accounting on a Slack/Mannikka motion. BS Education Biology on a Wilson/Mannikka motion. BS International Business was not approved for the following reason: LS credits come to 55 not 54, which puts the total credits at 121. Discussed some possible solutions that will be shared with proposer. BS Education - Music Education reviewed and identified several concerns: current program as reflected in the proposal is not consistent with the catalog (showing 63 credits of LS and 15 credits under LS Electives; concern about the reduced credits in Natural Science category to 7 credits (there was not a letter of support from the College of NSM for our review with this proposal LSC members, please note that there is a letter a support for this change from Dean Eck that is attached to the UWUCC proposal and it will be available for your review at the next LSC meeting). There was discussion that if this is acceptable to the College of NSM, other departments should be free to pursue this option. There are also 2 unapproved courses (MUHI 102 and a Physics course) included in the LS component that need LSC and UWUCC approval before the entire LS component can be approved. While the MUHI 102 is on the UWUCC docket, the Physics course is not there yet. Barbara Illig-Aviles did not meet with the committee as planned will check with her to determine the reason. Tabled discussion and action on the new course proposals that were on the agenda: ARHI 207, CHEM 113, 114, COSC 101.
