Williamson, Nancy Yost EXCUSED: Cassandra Reyes Dr. Myers (J) called the meeting to order at 3:20 p.m. On a Soni/Lenze the agenda was APPROVED as submitted. On a Soni/Ferro motion, the February 22, 2005 minutes were APPROVED as submitted. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Dr. James Myers announced a reminder that if you are going off Senate and would like to come back, the election deadline is March 16, 2005. April 19, 2005 is Professional Development Day and there are no classes; the committee was asked if they would be willing to work on this day. The proposer of EDEX 416/516, 417/517, 418/518, 419/519 has asked the committee to withdraw their graduate-level proposals. There may be some issues with APSCUF about the delivery of EDUC 590 courses as Distance Education Courses with respect to who is teaching, accessing, and the instructor of record. Dr. David Chambers announced that he and Dr. J Myers will be meeting with the Council of Chairs on March 16, 2005 to talk about procedures of the UWGC committee. Dr. David Myers distributed the following: Master of Education in Health and Physical Education, assigned to subcommittee #4 (Boser, Ayebo, Ropdriguez) EDUC 590 Teaching Across the Didactic / Constructivist Continuum (Distance Education Review Form) EDEX 517 Education of Persons with Mental Retardation or Developmental Disabilities (Distance Education Review Form) EDEX 681 Special Topics: Instructional Strategies for Gifted Learners (Distance Education Review Form), assigned to subcommittee #2 (Ferro, Boerner, Janicak) BIOL 456/556 Ecological Toxicology, assigned to subcommittee #1 (Bharadwaj, Lenze, Yost) ECON 681 Special Topics: Managerial Economics for Decision-Making and Leadership (this is a one time only being offered in Summer 2005, this course is part of a course revision proposal for the Administration and Leadership Studies Program. It will be offered as ECON 720 Managerial Economics for Decision-Making and Leadership). Dr. Soni announced that the new President wants more and more programs that will encourage larger numbers of students to participate in these programs. The President is not in favor of programs that attract only a very small number of students. Dr. Soni also noted the ɫӰs status as the only doctoral granting institution is being resented by many of our sister institutions within the PASSHE system. Definitely, there is a need to understand that ɫӰ delivers PASSHE doctoral programs; we need to be nimble in fostering collaboration with sister institutions to exploit opportunities to deliver PASSHE doctoral programs anywhere in the Commonwealth. Also, he mentioned that the special training session on performance funding highlighted, among other things, the high cost of graduate instruction (masters level only). A special subcommittee of the UPC will be studying the high cost issue in detail. In that context, he reiterated the need to expedite the approval of the graduate course renumbering concept.
