Colen, James Collins (student), Kate Cook (student), Craig Faish (student), Linda Hall, Rhonda Luckey, Germaine McArdle (graduate student) Sue Rieg, Terry Rittenberger, Heide Witthoeft. The following committee members were excused: Terry Appolonia, Frank (Pete) Brooks, Reena Dube, Beatrice Fennimore, Heather Powers The following committee members were absent: Dennis Hulings, Vanessa Varacalli (student). The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Beisel at 3:35 p.m. Old Business The minutes of the April 3, 2007 minutes were approved with corrections. Dr. Beisel reviewed minutes from previous Student Affairs Committee meetings/ Dr. Luckey informed the committee that the deferred rush issues discussed at our last meeting is being addressed by the Presidents Commission on Reducing Student Substance Abuse. It was recommended by Dr. Luckey that Jim Begany be invited to speak to this committee on undergraduate and graduate enrollment, recruitment, and retention. Chairs Report Dr. Beisel asked the committee members to read the Student Affairs website on the Senate web site. New Business The Student Affairs Committee members are invited to attend a meeting with the InterCollegiate Athletic Consulting facilitators on Thursday, October 25th at 3:30 in 211-216 Sutton. Dr. Luckey presented the committee with a handout, Division I Strategic Planning Study Overview. Dr. Witthoeft suggested that we invite someone from the Counseling Department to address our group regarding the services they provide to our students. Craig Faish informed everyone of the Open Door that is available for students and community members in crisis. Vice Presidents Report Dr. Rhonda Luckey reported the following: Reverse 911 is now working. She reminded everyone that we can register our cell phones and receive messages if there are emergencies on campus. This can be done through URSA. Approximate 1,000 people are registered for the Academic Expo this Saturday, October 20th. Our womens Field Hockey team is #1 in the country. PSAC championships are October 26-27. If the ladies do well, ɫӰ could be hosting the national championships. The film, An Inconvenient Truth will be shown on Thursday, October 18th in Eberly auditorium. The library is purchasing another film with opposing views that will be shown in the spring. Table Talks for the Common Freshmen Reader, Field Notes of a Catastrophe, will be held on November 7th. Mike Husenits has been hired as the Director of Undergraduate Admissions. Dr. Luckey suggested that we invite Dr. Caleb Finegan to meet with our committee regarding service activities. She mentioned that the Career Development Center supports service learning. Student Government Report Mr. James Collins reported that there will be an Open Forum at the Punxsutawney campus in order for students to discuss issues. The SGA and GSA are working together to plan SPEAK UP ɫӰ for the spring semester. SGA is working the RHA (Residence Hall Association) to discuss events, problems, and the good things happening at ɫӰ. They meet Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m..
