Call to Order: 3:20 PM Present: Barnacle, Carranza, Coccarelli, Craig, Flickinger, Hannibal, Martin, Matsubara, Numan, Peterson, Sadler, Scandrett, Sechrist, Soule, Staszkiewicz Excused: Orife, Wibowo Approval of Minutes: On a Scandrett/Martin motion, the minutes of February 22, 2005 were approved with the following changes: EDSP 494 to 493. On page two for the MGMT courses remove the references to course revisions since that will be approved later. On the last sentence: The online course description includes two extra sentences with the proposer will be asked to separate from the catalog description. III. Co-Chairs Report Sechrist reported that the UWUCC received two separate distance education proposals for FIN 320 from Drs. Eastman and Boldin because they each began developing their proposals separately and only towards the end discovered that the other was working on a proposal so they coordinated their final proposals so that the courses appeared comparable. Honors College Committee Report: No report V. Liberal Studies Committee Report: None For information: LBST 499 Great Lakes, Drs. Kevin Patrick and Whit Watts, Department of Geography and Regional Planning Dr. Jack Julian, Economics Dept. Type I (Professor Commitment) writing approval IFMG 460 Analysis and Logical Design, Type II writing approval (Department course) 04-51 ACCT 200 Foundations of Accounting, new course There was a minor editorial change needed so that the catalog description begins Provides a framework rather than The course provides a framework The proposal was passed on a Scandrett/Carranza motion. 04-37 GEOS 333 Soils and Soil Geochemistry, new course No problems were identified. The course was approved on a Martin/Coccarelli motion. VIII. 04-46b SAFE 212 Hazard Prevention Management I, new course 04-46c SAFE 220 Hazardous Materials, new course 04-46d SAFE 311 Fire Protection, new course 04-46e SAFE 320 Recognition, Evaluation and Control of Occupational Health Hazards I, new course 04-46f SAFE 410 Environmental Safety & Health Regulations, course revision, number change (was SAFE 210) 04-46g SAFE 412 Hazard Prevention Management II, course revision, title change (was Hazard Prevention Management) 04-46h SAFE 420 Recognition, Evaluation and Control of Occupational Health Hazards II, new course 04-46i SAFE 488 Internship, course revision 04-46b SAFE 212 Hazard Prevention Management new course These are the course proposals that go along with program revisions submitted under 04 -46 a. The UWUCC approved the 8 courses on a Peterson/Scandrett motion, with Soule abstaining. The following points were made regarding the various proposals 04-46d: The prerequisites should be in alphabetic order 04-46e: Begin the catalog description with Designed as a 0446f: Objective C should have the word proved changed to proven 04-46h: Begin the catalog description with Designed as a IX. 04-46a B.S. in Safety Sciences and Safety Sciences minor, program revisions The department needs to submit a side-by-side comparison of the old program to the new program and the catalog description needs to be in the right format. The proposal was given provisional approval on a Martin/Hannibal motion. Soule and Barnacle abstained. 04-48d ANTH 323 Mesoamerican Archaeology, new course 04-48e ANTH 325 Archaeological Lab Methods, new course 04-48f ANTH 425 Archaeological Theory and Research Design, new course 04-48g ANTH 422 Specialized Methods in Archaeology, new course 04-48h ANTH 485 Anthropological Study Odyssey, new course 04-48i ANTH 317 Archaeology Research Design and Analysis, course deletion Provisional approval was given to 04-48d, 04-48e, 04-48f and 04-48i on a Hannibal/Martin motion with the following provisions: Correct all pages of the course proposals so that they have the new course numbers. In some proposals, the prerequisites have course names; only numbers are needed On the catalog descriptions add 3c-0l-3cr (in bold) to all catalog descriptions In 04-48e: make the stem at the top of the list of course objectives Students will be able to: Then change the beginning of objective 2 to Catalogue artifacts On the Evaluation Methods Exams We believe it should read. Three in-class exams. And that one of which is the final exam should be removed because on this course it appears that the presentations are the culminating activity. On 04-48fWe believe that the correct prerequisites are ANTH 244 and 325 since 317 is the course being deleted. Begin the catalog description Reviews Proposals 04-48g and 04-48h will be acted upon after more clarification is received from the department. In each case, it appears that the course may be repeated and the department needs to work with the Registrars Office to insure that course numbering is not a problem. We believe that 422 will need to be changed to a number in the 480s so that it can be repeated. The attendance policies in these two courses can be specific if the department intends that all future instructors would have required attendance. Otherwise there should be a more generic policy so that each instructor teaching the course could set their own policy. There does not appear to be a culminating activity for 04-48g. The course description for 04-48g is much too long and wordy. It appears as if there might be a conflict with GIS courses if that would be the only technique covered one semester. Change the stem of the objectives to Students will be able to: and then begin objective one with apply or some other behavioral objective. It was thought that the course description in 04-48h should have a statement regarding the fact that the course requires field study work of some sort. Begin this catalog description Involves study . The items under B are misnumbered. The objectives in 04-48h are not stated in student behavioral terms and appear to be at a lower level than what might be expected of a 400-level course. XI.
