Call to Order: 3:15 PM Present: Barnacle, Craig, Kostelnik, Hannibal, Martin, McCombie, Numan, Sadler, Scandrett, Sechrist, Staszkiewicz Excused: Kabala, Pankaj, Peterson, Wheeler II. On a Sadler/Craig motion, the February 7, 2006 minutes were approved with two minor editorial corrections: adding PSYC before 388 Forensic Psychology and correcting the spelling of complimented. III. Co-Chairs Report Sechrist briefed the UWUCC on issues related to the Course Syllabus of Record issue. The Rules Committee chair, Dr. Soni, advised Dr. Sechrist that their decision was that procedural changes made by senate subcommittees were subject to full senate approval. Dr. Soni made some reference to there being a distinction made on procedural changes that received committee vote but the UWUCC was not clear on that and further clarification may be needed. Since nothing has come from the Rules Committee in writing, the UWUCC was not sure why procedural changes would require any senate action. This has not been the practice of the UWUCC and, we believe, other committees of the Senate as well. Sechrist and Staszkiewicz briefed the UWUCC, on the reactions of the UWGC, which had invited Sechrist/Staszkiewicz to their meeting last week. The discussion focused on several issues. Among these were: The perceived difference by the UWGC between curriculum syllabi at the upper division and Graduate level with the typical lower division undergraduate course and the approval process for procedures (see above) were the most significant. After an extended discussion in which the UWUCC clarified among itself that the proposed actions were not policy-level and that procedures have not historically gone to the Senate for a vote, we modified the Syllabus Amnesty proposal and decided to submit it to the Senate for information. Sechrist reported that the issue of COMM 410 has been resolved with Marketing and can be placed back on the Senate agenda. Sechrist reported that the UWGC has asked about all of the Business proposals on the UWUCC docket that say waiting for Grad Committee since they have still not received any of those proposals. The grad committee was told that this was because the College of Business requested that these proposals be sent as a package and that the UWUCC is still waiting for a response on three courses. Marcia will change waiting for Graduate Committee to Ready for Graduate Committee. There was concern that otherwise people think the UWGC is delinquent in its actions but, in reality the delay is from those departments who have not responded. IV. Honors College Committee Report: No report Liberal Studies Committee report was accepted as submitted. For information: Approved LBST 499 Geeks Bearing Gifts, Ms. Therese O'Neil, Computer Science department Approved LBST 499 The Rhetoric of Popular Culture, Dr. Judith Villa, English department Approved LBST 499 Your Financial Future Dr.Yu-Ju Kuo, Mathematics department 05-2 MGMT 325 Small Business Management, prerequisite change The proposal was approved for information on a Hannibal/Martin motion 05-25 GEOS 225 Forensic Geology, new course No problems were identified and the course passed on a Martin/Hannibal motion VIII. 05-27a GEOG 421 Enterprise GIS Management: Theory and Practice, new course 05-27b RGPL 421 Regional GIS Management: Theory and Practice, new course Sechrist confirmed with the registrars office that these cross-listed courses do not need to have the same title. Letters of support have been received from MIS and Decision Science Department and the Computer Science Department and were given to the committee. Both proposals passed on a Sadler/Staszkiewicz motion. Sechrist abstained. 05-28 HIST 310 Making Italy Modern, new course Two minor editorial corrections were identified in the catalog description. The proposal passed on a Scandrett/McCombie motion. 05-31a Minor Applied Social Research, minor revision and department catalog description revision 05-31b Minor General Sociology, program title change, program revision (was Minor Sociology) 05-31c Minor Human Services, new minor There were some editorial corrections in the use of track and minor that had been corrected since the copies were made. There was also a question as to why in one of the three proposals, it is the chairperson who must approve course selection. Sechrist will determine if that is correct. All three proposals passed on a Martin/Craig motion. XI. 05-38a ENGL 221 Creative Writing, catalog description change 05-38b ENGL 325 Creative Writing: Poetry, catalog description change 05-38c ENGL 326 Creative Writing: Fiction, catalog description change 05-38d ENGL 387 Irish Literature, catalog description change No problems were identified in any of the four proposals. All four proposals were approved for information on a Hannibal/Scandrett motion. Craig and Barnacle abstained. 05-37a ECON 121 Principles of Macroeconomics, distance education 05-37b ECON 122 Principles of Microeconomics, distance education There were a number of unresolved questions on these proposals. The primary issues were: There was no instructor syllabus (the application of the course syllabus to the distance education delivery mode by the proposer). This is the syllabus for the online version of the course. The narrative related to how distance education can be used to address the course objectives did not address each objective. There was no sample module. The proposals will be returned to the proposer for resubmission. 05 -39 CRIM 400 Theoretical Criminology, distance education (R. Mutchnick) The UWUCC commented on how well this proposal was prepared. It was approved on a Sadler/Staszkiewicz motion. Martin abstained. 05- 40 THTR 101 Introduction to Theater, distance education (B. Jones) The UWUCC commented on how well this proposal was prepared. It was approved on a Scandrett/Martin motion. XV.
