Co-Chairs Report Committee reviewed the UWUCC list of undergraduate distance education approved courses since 2001 to continue discussion of Committee’s distance education program policy. Samuels suggested that the language of the title be changed to make clear that it is current programs not new programs that are covered by the policy. Sechrist discussed reaction of faculty members regarding percentage of programs with distance education courses. At APSCUF Executive Committee it was suggested that a certain number of credits be used rather than a percentage (i.e., 21 credits in the major). Samuels raised issue of a difference between a blended program delivery versus a complete online program delivery in regards to the draft policy. Her view is that this policy should only be for programs that have expressed the intent to move totally online rather than just when a program reaches a particular threshold. Samuels also raised the issue that a department’s intent to offer an online program should go through her office to determine if sufficient resources exist. Pearlman brought up issue of department’s incremental distance education course proposals coming through curriculum committee and approaching the cutoff threshold of online program delivery. Scandrett brought up that most of the CRIM courses that are approved as online are elective courses rather than required. Carranza raised another question about what are the impacts of online programs in regards to the бЧЩЋгАПт residency policy, which states that a student’s final 30 credits are to be in residence at бЧЩЋгАПт. Sechrist has suggested that Academic Committee review that policy. Numan brought up issue of lab requirements with online courses. McCombie commented that you can have an online program creep in one course at a time. Carranza asked what constitutes a hybrid course. Sechrist responded that the definition may change if the new CBA is approved.
