Valerie Long of the Mathematical and Computer Sciences Department recently presented at the 2022 Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators conference in Henderson, Nevada.

In one presentation, Long and colleagues lead a discussion of mathematics curriculum recommendations for elementary teacher preparation with AMTE members from across the US. This session was meant to unpack the challenges of ensuring elementary preservice teachers are well-prepared to teach mathematics and focus on research-based recommendations for the content and structure of elementary content and methods courses.

For another presentation, Long described a newly developed graduate course that familiarizes K-12 teachers with cognitive science research for learning mathematics. The presentation included the motivation for the course creation, its overall design, and select assignments.
