Hundreds of families are expected for ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â's annual Family Weekend celebration on October 31, 2009.

The ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â Student Cooperative Association will continue its presentation of a special fireworks display October 31 starting at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks were first offered in 2008 in conjunction with the Cooperative Association's seventy-fifth anniversary.

Events begin at 9:30 a.m. with the traditional continental brunch in the Hadley Union Building atrium and Ohio Room. Dr. Tony Atwater, ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â president, and members of the administration and faculty will be in attendance to meet families.

Two special presentations will be offered to visitors at the ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â Planetarium in Weyandt Hall. The programs will be offered at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Tickets are free but must be picked up at the registration table.

A traditional highlight of the weekend is the Family Weekend football game. The ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â Crimson Hawks will play Gannon University. The ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â Marching Band will perform at halftime and offer its traditional postgame performance.

Several other events are offered free of charge during this year's celebration:

  • 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.—Office of Housing and Residence Life reception for community assistants, peer mentors, office workers, Residence Hall Association officers, and Residence Hall Council members and their families. Location will be the Suites on Maple West lobby.
  • 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.—Bingo, HUB Monongahela Room
  • 2:00 p.m.—ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â women's soccer game versus Mercyhurst, South Campus Soccer Fields
  • 4:00-6:00 p.m.—African American Cultural Center reception for families and students, HUB Ohio Room
  • 4:30-6:00 p.m.—Robert E. Cook Honors College reception for students and families, Whitmyre Hall Great Room
  • 4:00 p.m.—ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â women's volleyball versus Slippery Rock, Memorial Field House

Events conclude with a performance at 8:00 p.m. in the ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â Performing Arts Center's Fisher Auditorium by comic Jeff Civillico. Any remaining tickets for the show will be available at the door for $6. The event is free for ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â students with an I-Card.
