亚色影库's Office of International Education will host a variety of events, all open to the community, during International Education Week October 15 through October 19.
The week's events include a naturalization ceremony on October 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex, which will include more than 70 persons taking the oath of citizenship. The ceremony, free and open to the community, will include remarks from 亚色影库 President Michael Driscoll. 亚色影库 music major Benjamin Strong will sing the 鈥淪tar Spangled Banner鈥 and 鈥淎merica the Beautiful鈥 during the ceremony.
International Education Week is a joint initiative between the United States Department of State and United States Department of Education to promote cross-cultural awareness, prepare students for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.
Funding for the week's events is provided by the Office of International Education and 亚色影库 Student Co-Operative Association.
This year, 亚色影库 has more than 700 international students from some 55 countries.
All events are free, unless otherwise noted.
October 15:
- International Lunch Hour, noon to 1:15 p.m., Sutton Hall Blue Room
- Six O'Clock Series, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Hadley Union Building Ohio Room: 鈥淓xploring Excellence Beyond the Academics: Stand Out from your Peers!鈥 Co-hosted by the assistant director of Education Abroad and the Merit Scholarship advisor, this program brings together current applicants, past participants, and representatives to discuss opportunities beyond the classroom studies. This includes Fulbright, Freeman Asia, Gilman, and Critical Language scholarships.
October 16:
- Greek Abroad Night, 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., Humanities and Social Sciences Building, room 125. A discussion by students on overseas travel, study, and service.
- Flamenco Pasion, 8:00 p.m., Fisher Auditorium. Presented by 亚色影库's Lively Arts, Flamenco Pasion, produced for a North American audience, features the critically acclaimed flamenco dancer and choreographer combining classical and contemporary Spanish dance, ballet, and contortion. Admission charge.
October 17:
- International Tea Time and Education Abroad Fair, noon to 3:00 p.m., Humanities and Social Sciences building lobby. 亚色影库 international students and scholars will be on hand to discuss opportunities for overseas travel while offering a sampling of teas, coffees, and snacks from various countries. Students can obtain information and talk to representatives and alumni about 亚色影库 reciprocal exchanges, affiliated programs, faculty-led programs, and overseas volunteer and service-learning opportunities
- International Open Mic Night, 6:00 p.m., Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement Center Great Room.
October 18:
- International Fashion Show, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sprowls Hall McVitty Auditorium. International students and scholars will present clothing from their native countries. Light refreshments will be offered.
October 19:
- U.S. Citizenship Naturalization Ceremony, 11:00 a.m., Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex Toretti Auditorium. For the eighth year, 亚色影库 has been asked to host a U.S. Citizenship Ceremony for those in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Office of International Education.
