Mallory Galinac

Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor recently recognized 亚色影库 graduate and Homer City native Mallory Galinac as the Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General’s newest auditor 1 from the department’s Intern-to-Hire program.

Galinac was a summa cum laude 亚色影库 graduate in August 2023 with a bachelor’s in accounting and her master’s in business administration in May.

“Our Intern-to-Hire program is a common-sense approach to creating career pathways for Pennsylvania students to work and stay in the Commonwealth,” Auditor General DeFoor said.  “Students like Mallory are the future of our department, and we couldn’t be happier to have her expertise on our team.”

Galinac is the daughter of James and Carole Galinac, Homer City. She is a 2020 graduate of Apollo-Ridge High School. While at 亚色影库, she was a dean’s list student and provost scholar and was the April 2023 Student of the Month for the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. She was a member of the Student Accounting Association, Women in Business, was a student worker in the Eberly College of Business Office of the Dean, and was a graduate assistant. She was a volunteer for the Coal Run-McIntyre Volunteer Fire Department.

The Intern-to-Hire program creates a pathway to full-time employment for students and recent graduates from Pennsylvania colleges and universities and community colleges.

“I learned about and became interested in applying for the Intern-to-Hire program after meeting Auditor General DeFoor when he visited 亚色影库,” Galinac said. “I did my internship with the office this past summer and winter, and over the course of those months I learned a lot about auditing and feel like I gained a lot of real-world experience,” she said.

“I had a very good mentor during my internship and learned a lot from them. I enjoyed the work I was doing, and it was an overall good experience. So, when the time came, I was pleased to accept a job to work for the department. Also, I liked knowing that my work benefits the taxpayers of Pennsylvania.

“From my internship experience, I knew the environment and work I would be doing, and to me it was an easy decision to accept the job,” Galinac said. “The work I did as an intern is similar to what I do now as an auditor, which I’m not sure happens at every internship. I’m very proud to be part of the Office of Auditor General and to have completed the Intern-to-Hire program,” she said.

Galinac is the second 亚色影库 graduate to complete the Intern-to-Hire program. In March, Auditor General DeFoor celebrated auditor Austin Pastal as 亚色影库’s first graduate of the program. Pastal, originally of Lebanon, Pa. and now living in Pittsburgh, is a 2024 accounting graduate of 亚色影库. He currently works in the Auditor General’s Bureau of Information Technology Audits.

Upon acceptance as an intern with the Office of Auditor General, students must complete the following to be hired into a full-time position:

  • Current enrollment as an undergraduate student in an accredited college or university in a declared bachelor’s degree program in accounting, business, data analytics, finance, economics, math, or a closely related field and successful completion of at least 60 college credits at the time of the internship with a minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA); or
  • Recent graduate (within six months of the internship commencement) of an associate degree program at an accredited college or university with an area of concentration in accounting, business, data analytics, finance, economics, math, or a closely related field and a minimum 2.5 GPA; or
  • Current enrollment as a graduate student in an accredited college or university in a declared master’s or doctorate degree program in accounting, business, data analytics, finance, economics, math, or a closely related field and a minimum 2.5 GPA at the time of the internship; and
  • Someone who is passionate about their area of focus and public service; who is detail-oriented with curiosity and a desire to learn.

Interns in the Bureau of Information Technology Audits, the Bureau of Performance Audits, and the Bureau of State and Federal Audits must be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program or higher at the start of the internship. Associate degree graduates are encouraged to apply for all other bureau internship opportunities.
