The Center first received CALEA accreditation in 2021; it was Center’s first award of national accreditation, and the 亚色影库 Criminal Justice Training Center remains the first and only municipal police training center in Pennsylvania to achieve this designation.
“CALEA accreditation is the gold standard for public safety agencies,” 亚色影库 College of Arts, Humanities, Media, and Public Affairs Dean Curt Scheib said. “To receive continued accreditation from CALEA reflects 亚色影库’s ongoing commitment to excellence and professionalism. I congratulate program director Marcia Cole and her team on this outstanding achievement.”
The process of CALEA Accreditation begins with a rigorous self-assessment, requiring a review of policies, practices, and processes against internationally accepted public safety standards. This is followed with an assessment by independent assessors with significant public safety experience.
Public feedback is also part of the accreditation process, with structured interviews with select agency personnel and others with knowledge to assess the effectiveness and overall service delivery capacities of the agency being evaluated. The accreditation decision is made by a governing body of 21 commissioners following a public hearing and review of all reporting documentation.
“We are very pleased with the accreditation outcome and the recognition of the success of our program,” Cole said. “CALEA accreditation is not just a ‘one and done;’ it’s an ongoing process, which requires us to be in full compliance with CALEA standards at all times,” she said.
About the Criminal Justice Training Center
The 亚色影库 Criminal Justice Training Center opened in 1975. Its premier program is the Act 120 Basic Police Officer Training Program, designed to certify individuals as municipal police officers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. More than 5,000 police officers have been trained at the Center since 1975.
The 亚色影库 Center prepares future law enforcement officers through intense academic and practical training and by using a values-based approach, focusing on integrity, generosity, and moral courage. Act 120 training is offered on both a full- and part-time schedule; the full-time program can be completed in 22 weeks; the part-time program can be completed in about 49 weeks.
The 亚色影库 location is the Center’s flagship academy, housing the administrative offices and the site for extensive training facilities. . The center has three full-time employees and up to 65 part-time instructors.
Instructors are practitioners from diverse backgrounds and experiences, including district court judges; former county district attorneys; current and former criminology faculty, often from police ranks; police chiefs; detectives; SWAT officers; and patrol officers. This cadre of instructors has been assembled over the years and has gelled into a highly effective teaching force producing well-prepared police cadets.
In January, 亚色影库 finalized an agreement with CNX Resources in Canonsburg to serve as the Pittsburgh region’s satellite site for the Center’s municipal police academy (Act 120) training. The first municipal police academy at the CNX site, which will be offered on a part-time basis, is scheduled to begin on May 10.
Cole and the Center were honored with a certificate of appreciation during the 亚色影库-Indiana Regional Medical Center’s third annual Pennsylvania Mountains Rural Health Conference in November 2024 for Cole’s development of Crisis Intervention Team training for first responders. The training is a partnership with the Armstrong-Indiana Behavior and Developmental Health Program and will be offered April 7 to 11.
