This unique program is the only one of its kind in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Its comprehensive curriculum will train you for a wide range of positions that address all aspects of child and family life, from early intervention to counseling at-risk adolescents.

Whether your goal is to counsel in a school setting, work in community mental health or private practice, or train and supervise future counselors, the Counselor Education programs at ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â blend academic coursework, personal development, and the practical application of counseling skills to build the foundation necessary for a successful, rewarding career. Our flexible program design allows master's students in Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling to attend school full- or part-time. In contrast, Counselor Education and Supervision doctoral students move full-time through their training with a cohort of their peers. All three of our programs are offered in full at both the Indiana campus and at ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â Pittsburgh East in the Pittsburgh/Monroeville area.

Counseling Admissions

(both master's and doctoral programs)

The Department of Counseling and Human Development offers a PhD program, an MA program, and an MEd program, as well as two licensure/certification-only tracks at both the Indiana and Pittsburgh East campuses. Master's-level coursework can be completed on a full- or part-time basis, while doctoral coursework is completed utilizing a cohort model.

The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs initially granted accreditation to ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â's School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs in July 2008. The doctoral program was accredited in 2021. The programs are currently accredited through October 31, 2025.
