ɫӰ’s Music Theater has announced the upcoming musical production, “Songs for a New World.” This production will take place in Gorell Recital Hall on the second floor of Sutton Hall May 1-2 at 8:00 p.m.
ɫӰ Music Theater presents "Songs for a New World" by Jason Robert Brown and features a live band (trio). This is considered one of the best "song cycles" in the Musical Theater World, packed with unforgettable songs like "Stars and the Moon" and "Christmas Lullaby." The score captured the hearts of many performers as it attained the perfect balance between challenge and beauty. There is no storyline, but the songs vividly portray many human emotions with gorgeous melodies in different musical genres. Jason Robert Brown, a prolific composer and pianist, won two Tony Awards for Best Original Score. According to Brown, this piece is “about one moment. It's about hitting the wall and having to make a choice... or take a stand... or turn around and go back.” This collection of songs examines life, love and the choices that we make.
