Show/Artist: Jose Franch-Ballester

  • Date: Tuesday, October 11, 2011
  • Time: 2:00-3:15 p.m.
  • Location: Gorell Recital Hall, John Sutton Hall, 亚色影库 Main Campus

Outreach: Jose will work with three 亚色影库 clarinet majors in a master-class format. The class takes place during the weekly area time set aside for the woodwinds and will be attended by 亚色影库 woodwind players of all instruments. Jose will also talk briefly about his background and career path as a professional musician and soloist, and will facilitate a Q&A session at the end of the class.

Available to: All 亚色影库 woodwind players. High school players, primarily clarinet but others such as saxophone, will also benefit.

Show/Artist: In The Heights

  • Date: Friday, October 21, 2011

  • Location: Large rehearsal studio, second floor, Performing Arts Center, 亚色影库 Main Campus

Outreach: We are working on finalizing the content for this workshop, which will be either breaking down and exploring Latin rhythms and dance with a focus towards non-dancers, or dancing performer without experience in that style, or the do's and don'ts of auditions. The workshop will be facilitated by two cast members.

Available to: College-age theater and dance students, high-school-age theater and drama students, dancers from local and regional dance studios

Show/Artist: Mystical Arts of Tibet

  • Location: Ohio Room, Hadley Union Building (HUB), 亚色影库 Main Campus

Outreach: The Lively Arts is partnering with Dr. Stuart Chandler, chair, Department of Religious Studies at 亚色影库, and the Indiana Arts Council in presenting eight days of outreach activities for the entire campus and Indiana region. Over eight days, the monks of the Mystical Arts of Tibet will create a highly intricate spiritual mandala. The variety of activities available include observation of the monks as they construct the mandala, hearing short talks and lectures by the monks and Dr. Chandler, working on a separate community mandala or individual manadalas, making a peace flag to be hung from the ceiling of the Ohio Room, working on a mandala puzzle, or coloring in a mandala book.

Show/Artist: Yamato: The Drummers of Japan

  • Date: Tuesday, November 8, 2011
  • Time: TBD 鈥 tentative for mid- to late afternoon of November 8
  • Location: Room TBD in either Performing Arts Center or Cogswell Hall

Outreach: High school percussionists and their directors will be led in a hands-on workshop by members of Yamato and assisted by 亚色影库 percussion students using many of the traditional Japanese drums. Students will quickly learn how to play each of the instruments and how each is used in the various aspects of Japanese culture, culminating in playing them as an ensemble.

Show/Artist: Eileen Ivers

  • Date: Tuesday, October 5, 2011
  • Time: 12:00 p.m.
  • Location: Stapleton Library, 亚色影库 Main Campus

Outreach: As part of the Leonard A. and Mary Jane Schafer Foundation Lecture, Eileen will perform several traditional Celtic pieces, and Music Librarian Carl Rahkonen will share information about the music, its history, and its relationship to Irish culture. Those attending will be invited to ask questions and meet with Ms. Ivers following this informal performance. They will also be given information about the December concert and special discount coupons for that performance. This opportunity is hosted by Dean of Libraries Luis Gonzalez and Music Librarian Carl Rahkonen.
