All on-campus jobs paid through 亚色影库 Payroll are listed on the site.  “Hire a Hawk,” provides students one central location to find a job on any 亚色影库 campus. Jobs are posted, students are hired and the onboarding process, which may include background clearances, is completed using a human resources software tool, NEOED.

Student Supervisors are guided through each step of the job posting and hire selections process using the Hire a Hawk Comprehensive Guide. All student workers must be hired using this process—no exceptions. Student supervisors who need access to post a job, please send your request through AskHR.

The  (KCAC) also lists positions on the . These jobs are paid through OVG payroll, not 亚色影库 Payroll.

Aramark dining service hires many students each semester to work in the various dining facilities. For more information about available positions, contact personnel at any dining location. Job possibilities include cashier or checker, cleaning tables/floors, food preparation/serving, cleaning dishes, general labor, and student manager.

Am I eligible to work on campus?

Every student is eligible to work on campus, provided you are enrolled in at least six credits as an undergraduate student, three credits as a graduate student, or one credit as a doctoral student.

There are always positions available. Some positions require a student to be eligible for Federal Work Study. Others are funded through departmental funds. Please review the Student Employment and Federal Work Study page on the Financial Aid website.

How do I know if I have Federal Work Study?

A Federal Work Study (FWS) award is necessary for most on-campus student positions. To check your eligibility for FWS:

  1. Log in to using your 亚色影库 network account (your four- or five-character user ID).
  2. In Discover, search for "work study."
  3. On the Student Employment card, select Federal Work Study Eligibility Tool.
  4. Enter the current academic semester and choose Submit.

If I am not eligible for Federal Work Study, is there any other type of on-campus employment available to me?

Students not eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS) can seek employment in offices that have university employment or grant funds available for students.   The job posted in Hire a Hawk should indicate if a FWS award is required for employment.

How many hours am I allowed to work per week?

Students can work up to 25 hours/week when enrolled in coursework during the academic year. 

Graduate students must have at least three (3) credits and cannot work more than 37.5 hours per week.

 

Summer Employment:

  1. Students enrolled for coursework in the preceding spring and the following fall semesters may be employed during summer break and work up to 37.5 hours/week.

  2. Students enrolled for coursework during summer semesters may only work 25 hours/week.

  3. Graduate students completing dissertation/thesis during summer until graduation in August may work during summer break only if funded through departmental funds (no Federal Work Study).

Am I eligible for student employment if I am not attending classes?

No. One must be enrolled for courses at 亚色影库 in order to placed on student payroll during the academic year (fall or spring).

There are exceptions for employment during summer break:

  1. Incoming freshmen/first year graduate students who desire to work in the summer prior to their first enrolled fall term may work up to 37.5 hours/week.  However, student payroll will confirm enrollment for coursework for the fall term before work may commence.

  2. Students enrolled for coursework in the preceding spring and the following fall semesters may be employed during summer break and work up to 37.5 hours per week.

  3. Students enrolled for coursework during summer semesters may only work 25 hours/week.

  4. Graduate students completing dissertation/thesis during summer until graduation in August may work during summer break only if funded through departmental funds (no Federal Work Study).

How do I apply for jobs on the Hire a Hawk site?

  1. Click on the job title to view more details. Pay attention to the section "Special Instructions to Applicants."

  2. To apply, click on the green Apply button in the top right corner.

  3. Follow the online steps to "Create an Account" or "Sign In." Complete/review each section and choose the Next button at the bottom of the page. Select the Accept & Submit button to finalize your application. This application will be saved and can be used to apply for other job openings.

How will I know if I was selected for a campus job?

Only candidates selected for the interview process will be contacted.

Will I be required to complete background clearances?

Criminal background clearances are no longer required for student employees who have no direct contact and/or routine contact with a minor/child during the courses of their employment duties. (See the Protection of Minors policy at 亚色影库.)

However, if the student will have direct contact and/or routine contact with a minor/child during the courses of their employment duties, students who are verbally offered employment for such a position will be required to complete three background clearances prior to the start of employment (see Background Investigation Policy). All offers of employment are contingent upon the results of the background investigation.

Will I need identification to be placed on 亚色影库 Payroll?

Yes, for three reasons:

  1. Form I-9: You will be required to produce original . You have the option of presenting one original document from  or a combination of one original document from (a driver's license being the most common) and one original document from (the Social Security card being the most common). We cannot specify which documents the employee must present; however, whichever is presented must be original—no copies, scans, or emails can be accepted.

  2. FBI Federal Criminal Investigation (fingerprinting clearance): During registration for this clearance, you will be asked to select a form of photo identification, which needs to be brought with you to your scheduled fingerprinting appointment.

  3. Student payroll: Employers are required to issue all pay and W-2 forms in the exact name and Social Security number that are on file at the Social Security Administration. A penalty can be issued to the employee or employer if tax information is reported inaccurately. This must be an original card.

My parent works at 亚色影库. Can I work for them?

No. Per Management Directive 505.7/Personnel Rules, no employee or official can exercise direct and immediate supervisory authority over a family member.

Can I get a second campus job?

Students are allowed a second job on campus provided they do not exceed their total number of hours allowed to work per week.

Undergraduates cannot work more than 25 hours per week while attending classes.

Graduate students cannot exceed 37.5 hours per week.

International students cannot work or be paid for more than 20 hours per week while attending classes.

Can I work during a break?

Students can work up to a maximum of 37.5 hours per week during non-class periods of at least one week. The exception is the week of fall and spring registrations, when students can also exceed 25 hours.

How often are students paid?

Student payroll runs biweekly. Pay dates are every other Friday.  Direct deposit is required for all student workers.

Pay calendars for students and graduate assistants can be found on the Payroll Forms website under the heading “Student Payroll Documents.”

Can my pay be directly deposited? When is pay available?

Direct deposit is required for all student workers. You will need to know your bank’s  and your own bank account number.

Pay is deposited into the student’s bank and is available at 5:00 a.m. on payday.

How much do I get paid?

Departments are required to pay at least the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, but can pay students any wage they deem appropriate.  

If the student’s employment is funded through the Federal Work Study program, it is the supervisor’s responsibility to manage and track wages earned against the student’s award.  

Graduate directors, graduate assistants, teaching associates, resident assistants, and grant employees are paid as determined by the program that employs them.

Questions for International Students

Am I eligible to work on campus?

F-1 and J-1 visa holders who are enrolled at 亚色影库 and maintaining their visa status are eligible for on-campus work. Students who are attending 亚色影库 through a sponsor like Fulbright might have conditions on their eligibility to work. Please check with the 亚色影库 Office of International Education if you have questions about your status or eligibility.

Am I exempt from Social Security taxes? Federal Income taxes? State and local income taxes?

Deduction or exemption of Social Security taxes is determined by visa type. Exemption from federal income tax is determined by the country of residence. State and local taxes are deducted for your local address while you are enrolled at 亚色影库. Non-resident aliens are required to file income taxes. International students are issued a W-2 or 1042S form, depending on tax deduction.

Can I be paid if I don't have a Social Security number?

No. Pay cannot be issued until your original Social Security card has been presented to Student Payroll Services. The student identification number listed on demographics at the Registrar's office is changed to the Social Security number. The form to change this number is available at Student Payroll.

Can I continue to work if my visa expires?

Yes. Your visa can expire while in the US. However, students must have a valid passport and a valid I-20 or DS-2019.
