Emergency Shelter
The Women's Center's twenty-four-hour shelter offers a comprehensive range of services for victims of domestic violence and their children, including legal and medical advocacy, individual counseling sessions and support groups, housing advocacy, and assistance in goal planning and safety planning. A woman may call the hotline to inquire about shelter when she is in immediate danger at home or if she feels her partner is potentially lethal. -
Counseling Center
Anyone who is experiencing or has experienced abuse in an intimate relationship may call the hotline to inquire about receiving counseling provided by specially trained advocates who assist victims in exploring their feelings and understanding their options. WC&S advocates also encourage women to attend support groups to learn the dynamics of abuse, support each other's struggles and successes, and grow stronger through shared experiences. -
Children's Counseling Center
Living in a home where there is fighting—verbal or physical—can cause many problems for children of all ages. Children whose mothers attend individual counseling or a support group are invited to receive support through the Children's Counseling Center. Staff and qualified volunteers provide individual counseling and age-appropriate support groups for children who have experienced or witnessed domestic violence. -
Legal Advocacy
The Legal Advocacy department provides court accompaniment, support, information, and advocacy to victims of domestic violence as they progress through the legal system. Legal Advocates also provide trainings for professionals within the justice system (including police, attorneys, District Justices, probation, and parole officers) as they work towards a coordinated and effective response to domestic violence. -
Medical Advocacy
The Medical Advocacy department is comprised of specially trained advocates, based at Mercy Hospital, Mercy Providence, Allegheny General Hospital, and St. Clair Hospital, who provide intervention, education, information, and advocacy for victims of domestic violence who are at the hospital because of healthcare needs. Medical Advocates also provide training for professionals within the healthcare system in an effort to enhance the healthcare system's response to domestic violence.
