Purpose

The purpose of the Cross-Disciplinary and Department Teaching Circle Mini-Grants is to support Teaching Circles by helping them to achieve clear, well-defined outcomes that will enhance the teaching skills of its members and/or add to the group's knowledge of the scholarship of teaching and learning. Outcomes could include changes in syllabi with a supporting rationale based on reading and discussion in the Teaching Circle, a presentation based on work done by its members, a publication that grows out of the work of the Teaching Circle, as well as other appropriate products.

Outcomes could include modified syllabi based on readings and discussions that occurred in the Teaching Circle, a presentation based on work done in the Teaching Circle, a publication that grew out of the work of the Teaching Circle, or other appropriate products.

The Center for Teaching Excellence, through the Reflective Practice Project, has encouraged and supported the organization of Teaching Circles for many years.

Mini-Grants may be used for various purposes; for example, to

  • invite a speaker who is an expert in a specific field,
  • receive training in a teaching-related competency area,
  • cover the cost of books and other materials that are not readily available through the ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â library,
  • fund travel to a conference to present Teaching Circle outcomes, or
  • share findings with colleagues in a formal setting, like a departmental retreat.

Mini-Grants may only be used for activities, resources, and/or materials that will benefit all members and fit the specific goals of a particular Teaching Circle. Mini-Grant awards may not be used to buy food or beverages, market-specific programs or departments, or pay non-Teaching Circle-related expenses.
