Vanessa German scours her Pittsburgh neighborhood searching for objects to incorporate into her art. 鈥淚 surrender myself to the objects that call up to me,鈥 she has said. Her intricate mixed-media sculptures combine doll parts, antique tins, cowry shells, household objects, and African beads. With these three-dimensional collages, German reclaims objects and words that symbolize the oppression of African Americans.

2016 Master of Arts Thesis Exhibition

Gilded Age to Great War: Milton Bancroft and His Art

Academically trained in Boston, Philadelphia, and Paris, and nationally recognized for his portraits and architectural murals, Milton Bancroft's Impressionistic work reflected changes in American culture and art from the late 19th century through World War I.

Passage: Hatsubon is an experimental installation inspired by end-of-life conversations artist Tomiko Jones shared with her father in the months leading up to his death. Tomiko Jones' loose narratives unfold in sculptural video installations and questionably fictional photographs. Her work explores transitions in the landscape with particular attention to public lands.

Frank Mason: A Passion for Painting

Frank Mason's classical paintings鈥攈is portraits, still-lives, and landscapes鈥攁re reminiscent of the classic painting styles of Van Gogh and Vermeer. Throughout his career, Mason earned scores of international honors and was often commissioned to paint the portraits of princes, cardinals, and governors.
