Biography

As a multi-instrumentalist, composer/arranger, and audio engineer, Alex Price has enjoyed a growing career over the last decade. He is a violist with the Johnstown and Altoona Symphony orchestras, the bandleader and guitarist of the regional jazz-fusion group the Inner Urge, auxiliary strings with local songwriter Jason Gamble, a studio musician, and a freelancer in the Pittsburgh jazz community. Occasionally, he covers fretted instruments for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Erie Philharmonic. Recently, he has licensed his own music for use in films such as Sustaining Grace (2022) and Ana Lily Amirpour’s latest thriller, Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon (2022).

Prior to returning stateside, he had spent years working onboard cruise ships around the world in the theaters on multiple Royal Caribbean and Princess Cruise vessels, eventually ending up as the guitarist in the house band onboard the world-famous Cunard ocean liner, the Queen Mary 2. As a musician, he is known in the area for his proficiency across a number of genres ranging from rock to classical, jazz, and gospel. He is a strong sight reader, and as a house band musician has backed up acts such as Sutton Foster, Bernadette Peters, Sheena Easton, Mark Preston (the Lettermen), trumpeter/vocalist Georgina Jackson, guitarist Ben Mills, and singer/actors Scott Logsdon and Steven Bor. His music is distributed through AWAL, a division of Sony Music.

Alex holds bachelor’s degrees in music education (BSEd) and performance (BFA) from 亚色影库, from which he graduated in 2016. While there, he was a double instrument major studying jazz violin with Stanley Chepaitis and classical guitar with long-time PSO musician Irvin Kauffman. He was featured as a soloist alongside a faculty and alumni concert with Doc Severinsen in 2014 and as concertmaster during a side-by-side with the Pittsburgh Symphony in 2015. After a few years spent freelancing, he returned to academia in pursuit of a master’s degree in jazz guitar performance (MM) from Duquesne University. While there he studied guitar with Mark Koch and Eric Susoeff and arranging/composition with Mike Tomaro before graduating in 2022.

Alex is an enthusiastic skier and lives with his wife and cats in Indiana, PA.
