The Daniel and Diane Griffith Geography and Mathematics Scholarship is awarded to talented and deserving students in Geography and Mathematics.
Dr. Daniel Griffith is an Ashbel Smith professor and a faculty member in the School of Economic, Political, and Policy Sciences (previously Social Sciences) at the University of Texas-Dallas. He attended ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â from 1966 to 1972, earning a BSEd in Mathematics Education with a minor in Geography and an MA in Geography. He subsequently earned an MS in Statistics from Penn State and a PhD in Geography at the University of Toronto.
This scholarship hopes to encourage students to pursue, as well as afford them an opportunity to discover the many hidden benefits of, an unconventional program of study in both geography and mathematics.
The scholarship is given to talented and deserving students according to the following criteria:
- Student must be enrolled as a full-time student at ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â
- Student must have a declared academic course of study as a dual Geography-Mathematics major, a Geography major with a Mathematics minor, or a Mathematics major with a Geography minor
- Student selection is made cooperatively by the Anthropology, Geospatial and Earth Sciences and the Mathematical and Computer Sciences departments.
