The Arthur G. Morrell Memorial Scholarship is given to a mathematics major completing the sophomore or junior year at ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â who best reflects the character and interests of Captain Arthur G. Morrell. The scholarship has been awarded since 1981 in memory of Art Morrell, a 1975 ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â graduate in mathematics education, captain of the football team, and U.S. Marine pilot who died on a training flight. Art's father was an ÑÇÉ«Ó°¿â mathematics faculty member, now retired. The names of past winners are displayed on a plaque next to the entrance to Room 240, Stright Hall.
Students must be nominated byDepartment of Mathematics and Computer Sciences faculty. The department's scholarship committee considers extracurricular activity, academic success, and faculty support in selecting the winner.
